Active holidays in the Salzkammergut - naturally in Gosau!
Winter holiday at the foot of the Dachstein
Winter holidays in Austria are usually activity filled. Here in Gosau and
the surrounding area there are countless opportunities to experience the
snow-covered winter landscape in action.
Many of our guests continue to praise the cross-country skiing paradise of Gosau long after their visit - and often come back to us at COOEE alpin Hotel Dachstein for this reason. It’s just a hundred metres from the hotel to the entry of the cross-country ski run - can it get any better? Cross-country skiing is a uniquely natural sport and one of the healthiest ways to promote blood circulation. Gosau offers a number of cross-country routes - 50 km classic and 15 km skating - as well as an inviting practice trail for beginners. The trails are groomed daily and are free of charge.
Skating is cross-country skiing in its most original form and is experiencing a real revival. In Gosau you’ll find the charming 4 km Spreißler Skating Loipe stretching through the enchanting Gosau valley.
SKI TOURING - STEP BY STEP IN HARMONY WITH NATURE
There are nine ski tours to choose from in the Gosau region - all of which
require a little endurance. A ski tour leads you into the wintery mountain
solitude of snow-covered landscapes - in the stillness, listen to the slow
rhythm of your steps as you approach the summit.
Another alpine adventure also awaits you: climbing on the iced-over waterfalls - give it a try!
SNOWSHOE HIKING, ICE DIVING, SLEDGE DOG RIDES AND CURLING - WINTER HOLIDAYS IN AUSTRIA HAVE MANY FACETS
Fans of active holidays in the Salzkammergut will also discover snowshoeing. Native North Americans used snowshoes to hike across wide snow areas. Today they are used for the most beautiful winter hikes. Snowshoe hiking in the snow-covered winter landscape around Gosau is a popular leisure activity. The Hornspitzlift takes you to one of the most popular starting points.
Another trendy pursuit is ice diving in crystal clear mountain lakes like
Hallstättersee and Gosausee. In these small, biologically active lakes, you can
immerse yourself under the ice in an aquatic fairytale world.
For many, an active holiday in the Salzkammergut is not complete without a thrilling dog sledge ride. Feel the husky spirit in the Gosautal by steering your own sled through the snow-covered landscape!
Curling is a particularly sociable sport: along with the sound of sticks colliding you’ll hear cheerful laughter. Gosau maintains several ice rinks throughout the winter. If you're a serious enthusiast, you’ll already have your own curling stone - made of maple or pear wood - but you can also borrow one here.
One more tip from us: Every January hot-air balloons from all over Europe come to Gosau. As part of the International Alpine Trophy, up to 40 balloons in all colours fill the sky above the Dachstein.
